Ye, Formerly Known as Kanye West
TUESDAY, 19th October, 2021: American billionaire and rap artiste, Kanye West has officially changed his name.
According to the Los Angeles Superior Court, the artist who was formerly known as Kanye West or simply Kanye has officially changed his name to "Ye".
Judge Michelle Williams Court signed off on the rapper's petition, which was filed in August for the name change.
The rapper cited "personal reasons" for the name change petition filed on August 24, 2021.
With the petition approved, the 44-year-old musician relinquishes a middle or last name and just answers to Ye.
Ye released an album with the same name in 2018, although it was used as a common shortening of his stage name prior to the project's release.
Speaking about the development at a radio interview, the rapper said, "I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means you. So, it’s I’m you, I’m us, it’s us."
“It went from being Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, our everything.”
