THE National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) is calling on the entire citizens to desist from activities that are capable of causing pollution and flood to the environment.
CEOAFRICA news correspondence gathered this declaration from the address of Director-General of the Agency, Mrs. Ngeri Benebo, who was represented by Mr. Larry Ineke, the Anambra Cordinator of the Agency during the one-day sensitization workshop on flood and sanitation for stakeholders in Awka on Friday.
Mrs. Benebo stated that it was the ignorance and wrong attitude of public that informed the ongoing general sensitization, stressing that the agency had sensitized flood-prone communities and every corner of the state to forestall possible flood in the future.
The NESREA Director-General revealed that the exercise is in prompt reaction to the recent prediction by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency that the nation will experience another flood this year, adding that one of the major ways to achieve better environmental situation is through collaboration and partnership with all stakeholders.
However, Dr. Anthony Okoye who spoke on the paper titled “Waste Management and Sanitation in Anambra: The Role of stakeholders,” noted that shortage in capacity for waste collection and disposal in the face of the ever-growing population had also contributed to inadequate waste management.
