Gombe laments increasing cases of teenage pregnancies and child marriages

Thursday 4th Nov.2021:The Gombe State Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Jatau, has cried out about the increasing cases of child marriage in communities within the state.
Jatau complained about the increasing rate of teenage pregnancy, which he said had become rampant in the state.
He made the declaration while hosting leaders of the Gadam community who came to solicit for access road as well as on a thank you visit following the closing of UNICEF, Chinese government support to 10 primary healthcare facilities in the area on Wednesday.
The Deputy Governor said, UNICEF and the Chinese government have pledged to consider continuing with the project having recorded great achievements and positive responses and support from the people of the affected areas.
He  used the opportunity to register his concern on early marriage and teenage pregnancy,saying  “Early marriage and pregnancy were noticed during the visit to Konfulata recently.
“While we try to provide healthcare, we should be careful not to allow what will endanger the lives of the people.”
Jatau informed them that most of their requests were already part of their plans and were already tabled before the governor,while assuring them of positive responses.
He concluding by commending the skills acquisition programme of the Gadam Community Development Association for their youths and women, pointing out that it would go a long way in complementing government efforts towards youth empowerment.
