AFCON: Super Eagles begin preparation as three players arrive camp

Thursday 30th December 2021: The Super Eagles camp in Abuja for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations opened yesterday with three players have arriving in camp .

The first player to arrive at the camp was South Africa based Olisa Ndah, a central defender.

Other players who have arrived afterwards are Taiwo Awoniyi and John Noble.

A post via the teams Facebook page confirmed the arrival of the trio.

“Olisa Ndah is the first player to arrive camp. Taiwo Awoniyi and John Noble have arrived at camp… Three players in camp,” it posted.

The Super Eagles camp opened on Wednesday for the start of preparation for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, The PUNCH has learnt.

The 33rd edition of the AFCON will hold in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, 2022.

While Players based in the United Kingdom are not expected to report to camp until January 3, the three-time African champions will be camped at the Bolton White Apartments in federal capital city of Abuja.

The players based in the UK are Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, Emmanuel Dennis, William Troost-Ekong, Frank Onyeka, Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo.

The team is scheduled to depart for Garoua, Cameroon on January 6, six days before their opening group game against seven-time champions Egypt.

The Eagles will commence their campaign against the Pharaohs on January 11 at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua.

Coach Austine Eguavoen, who coached the Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2006 AFCON in Egypt 15 years ago, has selected four goalkeepers, nine defenders, five midfielders and 10 forwards to aim for Nigeria’s fourth AFCON title in Cameroon.
