PSN visits to NDLEA National Headquarters in Abuja
The President of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Prof. Cyril Odianose Usifoh FPSN has said there is need for strong ties between Pharmacy and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for the regulation and control of drugs in the country.
Prof Usifoh made this known to CEOAFRICA during a courtesy visit to the NDLEA National Headquarters, located at No 6, Port Harcourt Crescent, Area 11, Garki, Abuja on 3rd August, 2022.
He said it is to seek more collaboration with the Agency to properly address issues of drug administration. The PSN said; “My Association is aware of the enormous burden of drug and substance abuse across the country which has culminated in health challenges; and as custodian of community health, we are working very hard with other agencies of drug and psychotropic substances to see that it is abated.” The President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria commended the unflinching efforts of the NDLEA in the war against illicit drugs and substance abuse.
Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig.Gen.MB Marwa (Retd), OFR, with top officials of the agency gladly received the President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Prof Cyril Usifoh, harping on the imperative needs for his Agency and pharmacists to work in synergy in drug control for the good of the society.
While thanking the PSN President, Brig.Gen.MB Marwa (Retd) assured that his agency is not leaving any stone unturned; hence, the agency is out to dismantled laboratories where illicit drugs, including crystal methamphetamine, aka Mkpuru Mmiri, are produced for distribution. He added further that there is need for painstaking intelligence gathering, diligent tracking and coordinated offensive action against the cartel behind the scourge which he said can be achieved through collaboration with relevant agencies like PSN.
In company of the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria , Prof Cyril Odianose Usifoh FPSN on the historic visit were the National Secretary of PSN ,Pharm. Gbenga Falabi , the Chairman, Conference Planning Committee of the 95th Annual National Conference of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) tagged “TINCITY 2022” ; other executive members of PSN and the National Chairman of Association of Community Pharmacy of Nigeria (ACPN) Prince Pharmacists Adewale Oladigbolu FPSN.
