The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has declared that the Apex Bank will release re-designed Naira notes by December 15, 2022.
Emefiele disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.
The Governor said the existing notes will seize to be regarded as legal tender by January 31, 2023.
Emefiele appealed to Nigerians to deposit their Naira notes in banks, adding that the deposit fee will be waived for transactions below N150,000.
The CBN Governor said the re-designing of Naira notes will help to curb counterfeit notes, as well as hamper ramson payment to terrorists and kidnappers.
