It was reported from Democratic Republic of Congo that one of the United Nations Peacekeepers was killed and three others seriously injured in the ongoing clash with M23 rebels near Goma.

It was gathered from the peacekeeping spokesperson, Felix Basse that UN forces used attack helicopters to push back the M23 rebels.

"Monusco has enlisted all of its attack helicopters and its artillery... to push back the M23 offensive that is under way right now on the hills of Kibati," he said.

Both government and UN forces have been battling the rebel since last week, with over 80 lives lost already.

According to a doctor in the region, Isaac Warwanamiza, 82 bodies were seen in his hospital, including those of 23 government soldiers last Sunday.

Until the time of gathering this report, the identity and nationality of the deceased UN peacekeeper has not been disclosed.
