Zayyanu Wamakko, a son in-law of Minister for Police Affairs, Muhammad Maigari DingyaÉ—i, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Zayyanu is also a nephew of Sokoto APC leader and former governor of the state, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
He dumped the APC during the campaign of PDP at the hometown of the ex-Governor on Sunday, according to a statement by Muhammad Bello, special adviser on media and publicity to Governor Aminu Tambuwal.
Zayyanu, who is also an APC leader in the state reportedly told PDP supporters at the campaign ground that his move was inspired by the progressive spirit of Governor Tambuwal.
He said he was attracted to join the PDP alongside his teeming supporters by the developmental landmarks of Tambuwal administration.
He also emphasized his readiness to work for the party in its efforts to advance the lives of the people.
Also speaking at the event, the state Deputy Governor, Manir Muhammad Dan Iya, who is also the main challenger of Wamakko for the Sokoto North Senatorial seat vowed that he will win the forthcoming election.
Angling his cap in the dress style of his political opponent, Dan Iya said he would floor Wamakko before 12 noon on the election day.
