The people of Abia have been asked to observe seven days of fasting and prayers ahead of the May 29 inauguration of Alex-Otti as the new governor of the state.
Already, the Abia State chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN has declared support for the fasting and prayers which will begin Sunday, May 21 and end on Friday, May 26.
The prayer and fasting will kick off the spiritual cleansing of the state ahead of the inauguration of the new governor, the Organising Committee for the ‘Abia State Re-dedication and Dr Alex Otti’s Thanksgiving Service’ said in a statement on Sunday.
The Committee announced the seven-day prayer, fasting and thanksgiving period in the state in a statement signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Mr Uzor Nwachukwu and Mr Bertrand Okeomah.
According to the statement, the fasting and prayers were part of the activities lined up for the inauguration of Otti as the 10th Governor of Abia on May 29.
The committee SAID the event, which aimed at ushering in a new wave of spirituality, would be rounded off with a “Re-dedication Retreat” at the Ngwa High School, Aba on May 27.
It further stated that the exercise already had the support of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) leadership in the state.
“Similarly, a post inauguration state Thanksgiving Service will hold on Sunday, June 4, at the Umuahia Township Stadium by noon prompt,” the statement added.
While confirming its support, the state chapter of CAN has called on all its member churches in the state to observe the prayer and fasting sessions.
The body in a statement by its Secretary, Dr Mgbeahuru Okey, stated that the directive was issued by the state Chairman, His Eminence, Dr Emmanuel Agomoh.
“Let’s join hands with other faithful in this all-important assignment for a new Abia of our collective dream,” the CAN statement stated.
