The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Felix Ajakaye has expressed displeasure that the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor has kept mute over the aftermath of the purported suspects arrested over the attack on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.

Gunmen had on June 5, 2022, attacked the Catholic church killing at least 40 people and leaving several others injured.

In a statement, Ajakaye lamented that the defence minister has not furnished Nigerians with any update on the arrest of suspects after claiming in August last year that they have been arrested.

“Now, a question for the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor: Please, sir, when shall we be lucky to know what has become of the people you told Nigerians and the whole world were arrested due to their involvement in the massacre of the over 41 people and scores of people seriously injured during the Church attack of the worshippers by such people in Owo on 5 June 2023?” Ajakaye queried.

He carpeted the then Muhammadu Buhari administration for merely taking commiseration as a routine practice without taking further steps necessary adding that government’s claim of always being on top of sensitive situations were never backed with truthful action.

The clergyman maintained that questions will continue to be raised on the matter until a satisfactory answer is supplied.
