The Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Moor Plantation, Ibadan, on Wednesday, held its matriculation ceremony for new students.
The event which took place at the K.J Nwufoh auditorium of the school premises, had all the principal officers of the college were present, starting from the Provost, Rev. Dr. Adekoya Olatunde Owosibo, to the Deputy Provost (Academics) Dr Isaac Ayodeji, Deputy Provost (Academics), Deputy Provost (Administration), Dr Funmilayo Ogunleke, the Registrar, Mr. Nathaniel Adeolu Jolaiya, the Librarian, Bursar Mr Ayodele Olayinka, Deans of Faculty, Heads of Department, parents, guardians, and well-wishers.
The highlight of the event was the taking of an oath and the signing of the matriculation register by the new students. Each departmental head led the students into the induction process.
In his address, the Provost, Dr. Adekoya Owosibo emphasized the importance of non-violence and warned that any student caught engaging in violence would face appropriate consequences.
He advised the students to focus on their studies, as the college would place any student who fails to attain a grade point of 2.0 in their first-semester results on probation. If there is no improvement in the second-semester results, they would be advised to withdraw from the college.
He also warned against unwholesome behavior, indecent dressings, examination malpractices, cultism, and urged the students to take necessary precautionary measures during practical sessions.
Furthermore, he advised the students to carry their identification cards at all times and discouraged the idea of engaging in a "couple's life" while on campus. He also reminded the students to be focused on their education by attending lectures, engaging in productive class interactions, and participating in the acquisition of skills through the college's entrepreneur scheme.
In an interview with CEOAFRICA, Dr Owosibo, expressed his thoughts on the significance of the matriculation ceremony as part of the school calendar. He urged the students to exhibit good conduct as they begin their academic journey. He emphasized the need for students to avoid getting carried away with side hustles and encouraged them to prioritize their studies. While acknowledging the commendable efforts of hardworking students who sponsor themselves through education, he advised them to strike a balance and concentrate more on their academic pursuits.
The Deputy Provost (Administration), Dr. Ogunleke Funmilayo, also expressed her joy at the increased number of students admitted to the college. She urged the students to focus on their studies and take advantage of the entrepreneur scheme to acquire practical skills that would make them self-reliant after graduation.
The College Registrar, Mr. Nathaniel Adeolu Jolaiya, urged the students to recognize the opportunity they have been given and to use it to build themselves. He reminded them that they were among the few lucky ones selected from thousands of applicants seeking admission.
Meanwhile, the Heads of Departments also spoke with CEO Africa, urging the students to reflect on the wise and encompassing message delivered by the provost during the induction ceremony. Some students also expressed their joy as they are being inducted and confirmed a bona fide student of the college.
The matriculation ceremony was also a moment of celebration for parents and family members who took photographs with their wards to create lovely memories of the day.
