The President of the Pharmaceuticals Society of Nigeria (PSN), Prof. Cyril Usifoh, has assured that the 2024 Conference set to hold at Ibom Hall, a state-owned event centre and magnificent structure with state-of-art facilities in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, will be unique from previous events with testimonies of a conference with a difference.
According to Usifoh, this year’s conference holding from Monday, November 4, 2024, till Saturday, November 9, 2024, is themed “Transforming Pharmaceutical Innovation to Facilitate Equitable Healthcare in an Emerging Economy.”
Tagged ‘Uyo 2024’, Prof. Usifoh told CEOAFRICA in an exclusive interview that being an annual conference will feature over 4,500 Pharmacists, Pharmaceutical Scientists, Healthcare Professionals, Captains of Industries, Stakeholders and an array of Dignitaries.
Key dignitaries to attend are, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno; Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru; Jigawa State Governor, Mallam Umar Namadi, among other state governors. The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate who will deliver the Keynote Speech; and the Chairman of the occasion, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe Agbogidi, CFR, OBI OF ONITSHA will also be in attendance.
The PSN President also noted that being the biggest event in the pharmaceutical industry, part of the activities of the 2024 conference is the expiration of his tenure and a new administration that will be elected by conferees.
“The conference will produce a new president because I will be stepping down,” he said.
Assuring the attendees of safety and smoothness, Usifoh explained that “Additionally, we want to showcase Uyo. The roads have been properly constructed, there will be no flooding as we experienced in 2014, Ibom Hall has been properly upgraded.” He also added that the pharmacists would enjoy the beautiful dishes, cuisine and sceneries of Uyo.
On things to expect from the conference, the erudite professor of Pharmacy expressed that ideas will be discussed, captains of industries will be in attendance giving room for conferees to grow their businesses as well as beehive of professionally inclined activities which will bring together over 250 manufacturers, importers and other potential investors especially in the Pharmaceutical sector.
“Other visitors from neighbouring countries will attend because it will be a unique opportunity to buy pharmaceutical products at a cheaper price compared to what they obtain there,” he added.
Prof Usifoh also said, “most importantly, that state (Akwa Ibom) will be transformed economically” as the event will be a whole lot of multiplier effect for the state, adding that “we believe the state will benefit from our conference. I am sure that by the time we are done, something unique/extraordinary would have happened.”
