The Head of the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy at Chrisland University, Dr. Kunle Olawumi, has recommended the establishment of a National Coordination Committee on the Protection of Human Rights (NCCPoHR) as a key strategy to combat Nigeria's growing insecurity.

The retired Navy commodore made this recommendation during his lecture on the nexus between governance and societal well-being at Chrisland University in Abeokuta.

Dr. Olawumi stated that Nigeria's escalating insecurity is largely due to diminishing state capacity and the rent-seeking behaviors of political elites, which have created a vicious cycle of poverty. He emphasized that addressing these issues is crucial for ensuring human rights and global peace, highlighting the link between meeting human needs and upholding human rights.

"To consolidate peace and stabilize the nation, Dr. Olawumi proposes the NCCPoHR, which would coordinate the efforts of various institutions already tasked with addressing related issues. These institutions include the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Legal Aid Council (LAC), Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)"
