LAGOS – Dr. Mudashiru Obasa, the former Lagos State House of Assembly, has said that due process was not followed in his removal, stressing that he believes he remains the speaker until the right thing is done.
Speaking while addressing his supporters at the Speaker’s Lodge in Lagos on Saturday, he said that while he was not afraid of being removed as the speaker, the right process was not followed, challenging his colleagues to do the right thing. “I am not afraid of being removed as the speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly.
But, the right process was not followed. “I believe I am still the speaker until they follow the right process,” he said.
The former Lagos Assembly Speaker noted that he had been a parliamentarian in the last two decades, delivering services to his people, wondering why they could not follow the right process if they wanted to remove him.
“I have been a parliamentarian in the last two decades and those at the Lagos State House of Assembly are my brothers and sisters, apart from being colleagues. “I believe in removal because you cannot impeach a speaker. You can only remove him. But, it has to follow due process. “I am not afraid of being removed.
But if such must be done, it has to follow due process, not that because I was out of the country, you brought policemen to invade the Assembly.
You brought policemen to invade my house at GRA and all that; that is not how it should be,” he said.
“I am not begging for support. But, I believe so much in protecting our constitution and our institution, the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“When my colleagues, Pelumi and Tejuosho, were removed, it was done peacefully and there were no police there. What were policemen doing as they said they removed me?” Obasa also denied using N16 billion for the construction of a gate, saying it was all allegations meant to smear his image. “Is it possible to construct an ordinary gate with N16 billion? I want to address this issue that has been circulating in the media space, because it is false.
“The gate we are talking about here is not the gate of Jericho, nor is it the American-Mexico gate. It is impossible to construct an ordinary gate with N16 billion,” he said.
