Ivorian football legend, Yaya Toure, has named the Super Eagles of Nigeria as the most impressive national team at the just-concluded African Cup of Nations tournament.

The 35th AFCON concluded on Sunday, with Senegal claiming the title after a 1-0 win over hosts Morocco.

Nigeria failed to progress to the finals, losing 4-2 on penalties to the Atlas Lions in the Semi finals, but the Super Eagles ended as the third-best side after defeating Egypt 4-2 on penalties.

Reacting to the overall tournament’s display in an interview with Bleacher Report Footballon Monday, Toure, who won the African Footballer of the Year award for four consecutive times, bypassed the champions Senegal, and hosts Morocco in his assessment, instead naming Nigeria as the standout team of AFCON 2025.

“I've seen the AFCON; I've been there. I've been impressed with Algeria; unfortunately, they got kicked out by Nigeria. I'm impressed by the team coached by Regragui, the manager of Morocco, very pragmatic, very direct, and playing counterattack,” he said.

“I was impressed with Nigeria; they play good football. When you see the stats, they've been scoring more than usual goals. Full strike, full attack, playing very good football.
