President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose tenure expires on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, brings extensive expertise in digital infrastructure, national examination systems, and institutional reforms.
The Presidency described the incoming registrar as a distinguished academic and systems expert with significant experience in public-sector transformation and educational technology.
“Professor Aina, who will be 40 in July, is a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform,” the statement said.
Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He has also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
The statement further noted that the professor has more than 15 years of professional experience advising federal and state governments on digital transition, institutional reforms, and systems design.
Described as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in the field of Computer Engineering, Aina is also set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
Before his appointment, he reportedly served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), particularly on ICT systems and examination integrity initiatives.
He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would consolidate on the reforms and achievements recorded under the outgoing registrar, Professor Oloyede.
“President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring to bear his vast experience, knowledge and practical insight into the operations of the Board, to take the critical educational organisation beyond the laudable heights achieved by his predecessor,” the statement added.
