Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, on Friday raised the alarm over the dwindling finances of the state, even as he promised to move the state forward with the available financial resources at his disposal.

‘Speaking shortly after being sworn into office, Ugwuanyi warned that it would no longer be business as usual, as every revenue-generating agency of government should be ready to generate and remit revenues to fund government’s development efforts.

“Likewise, individuals and corporate entities should henceforth, start paying tax, as defaulters will not be counted as friends of Enugu State.

“But one thing I must assure you is that, every kobo you put into the coffers of government will be utilised transparently and in a way that adds value to your lives,” he stated.

Governor Ugwuanyi, who pledged to continue with the legacies of the  immediate past administration of Sullivan Chime to take Enugu to the next level, said  the dwindling resource flow occasioned by the drop in prices of oil ,had elicited need to look inwards and harness those potentialities, which had remained unexploited because of the country’s focus on oil.

The governor stated that he was confident that his administration would make the needed positive improvement on the development and wellbeing of the people of the state with the support and cooperation of the people.

On the programmes of his administration, the governor said that he would recommit himself to employment generation, enhanced social services and good governance, rural development as well as security and justice.
