Following the expiration of the 48 hours deadline issued to the Egyptian President, Mohammed Morsi by the military, report reaching the news desk of CEOAFRICA is that Mr. Morsi has been overthrown by the Military in Egypt on Wednesday night.
At a live broadcast, the chief of the armed forces, General Abdul Fatah Khalil al-Sisi, announced the suspension of the Egyptian Constitution, the appointment of the head of the constitutional court as the interim president, the calling of early new presidential election, and the establishment of a national government of technocrats.
The army chief promised to empower Egyptian youth to participate in the political process, as he also promise to protect free media within the ambience of guaranteeing national security, and to work towards national reconciliation.
Tens of thousands of anti-Morsi demonstrators could not hide their joy when it was finally confirmed that the military has overthrown the government of Mr. Morsi. They waved the Egyptian flag, threw fireworks on the air, and expressed their happiness to the development.
However, the whereabout of Mr. Morsi is still unknown, as his supporters promised to continue with protest until he is finally re-instated into office.
