
The Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, are in the finals of the 2015 African Basketball Championship after beating SENEGAL 88 points to 79 in their semi-final clash on saturday.
They defeated their Senegalese opponent 88-79 in overtime to reach their first FIBA finals.
By the victory, they have now avenged their 2013 defeat by Senegal.
They will now meet either of Tunisia or Angola on Sunday.
The Senegalese team who before today were undefeated in Tunisia got the first set of points in the tension-soaked semi final duel.
However D’Tigers settled in fast and they took the first quarter with a narrow 18-15 points tally.
The Senegal team bounced back strongly for the second and third quarters stealing a 22-17 and 26-22 win respectively.
D’Tigers, who are desperate to make the finals of the Afrobasket tourney for the first time in 12 years, dug deep in the final quarter which they won 19-13 to tie the game at 76-76 points.
With the development, the game stretched to extra time in which Nigeria got 13 points while Senegal managed just 3 points.
With that, it was the D’Tigers that pulled through to the final with the 88-79 win and would now wait for the winner of the Tunisia Vs Angola semi final duel.
The winner on the 2015 Afrobasket gets automatic qualification for the basketball event of the Rio 2016 Olympics.
