CEOAFRICA gathered that the Pakistan Prime, Nawaz Sharif has on Wednesday urged the US President, Barak Obama to halt drone strikes in Pakistan which has become a critical tension in the relationship of both countries.

Concerning the threat, the two leaders held elaborate talks at the white House on Wednesday, pledging to strengthen the often-strained ties between the nations.

Discussing the tension between Pakistan and India over the disputed Kashmir region, Obama assured that the US and Pakistan remained important strategic partners.

The talks came just hours after India accused Pakistani troops of firing guns and mortars at several dozen Indian border posts in Kashmir, consequently killing one Indian guard and six others injured.

Mr. Obama is said not to have address the incident in remarks after their meeting, but praised Mr. Sharif for "taking a very wise path in exploring how decades of tension between India and Pakistan can be reduced".

Mr Sharif however, spoke of his commitment to building a "co-operative relationship with India, and their efforts to peacefully resolve all our outstanding issues, including Kashmir".
