Government Restores GSM Networks in Maiduguri…Reduces Curfew to 11 Hours

NIGERIA- Federal Government has made a u-turn on the 24-hour curfew declared in Maiduguri, Borno State Capital to 11 hours. The curfew will now last from 7 pm to 6 am.

In a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Jidda, the decision to review the curfew was reached after government officials concluded their meeting with security agencies on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013.

Also, GSM network, which was grounded in May, is likely to have been restored as Maiduguri residents have started receiving weak signals on their phones.

It would be recalled that 24-hours curfew was declared in the state following the Boko Haram sect’s attack on an Airforce base and some Army formations, and the Maiduguri International Airport on Monday
