As the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil draws nearer, Iran is planning an international friendly match with the Syli Stars of Guinea as a way of preparing them against one of their Group F foe, Nigeria.
Coach Carlos Querioz disclosed this yesterday during a press conference in Tehran, the capital of Iran.
“We’ve received several offers for friendly matches but playing friendly against Guinea is my top priority since they have European-based players. The match will be held on March 5. To play Congo is also in our program.” Querioz said.
Furthermore, the Portuguese said some European teams will face Iran as part of preparations for the tournament.
“Please don’t compare us to Spain or Germany. Everybody compares us to the teams should be nominated for Comedian of the 21st Century award. It took 80 years to win the titles for Spain,” former Real Madrid coach added.
“It’s a good opportunity for Iran football to play three good teams at the World Cup with three different styles. It’s an impossible mission for us to book a berth in the next stage. Of course I believe that there is no easy group in the competition,” Carlos Queiroz said.
Iran is drawn in Group F along with Lionel Messi’s Argentina, Edin Dzeko’s Bosnia-Herzegovina and African Champions Nigeria with John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses and power playing Emmanuel Emenike in its fold.
