EGYPT – At least 12 people were killed while over 100 injured as a car bomb attack was launched at a security building in northern Egypt.

The blast led to the partial collapse of the building in the city of Mansoura, north of the capital, Cairo.

The blast happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning, while its impact was felt 12 miles away.

A damaged car is seen after the explosion which was described as an act of terrorism by the Interim Prime Minister Hazem Beblawi.

Attacks on the security forces have gone up since the army removed Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in July.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for Tuesday's blast.

Meanwhile, members of the Muslim Brotherhood which supports ousted President Mohammed Morsi, has condemned the bombing.

"Muslim Brotherhood considers this act as a direct attack on the unity of the Egyptian people," it said in a statement.
