NIGERIA (Adamawa) –The Nigerian Police force has donated foodstuffs to widows of dead police officers in Adamawa State.

During the presentation of the items in Yola, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, who was represented by the Commissioner of Police in-charge of welfare at the IG’s office, Yakubu Usman, said the police want to show the bereaved that they were still part of the police family. He said the departure of their loved ones in active service would not be forgotten by the police which would continue to do all it can to give them a sense of belonging.

In his reaction to the gesture, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Godfrey Okeke, said the gesture was first of its kind he is witnessing since joining the force over 30 years ago.

Mr. Okeke said the timely gesture coming at this festive period should be cherished by the beneficiaries.

While urging the beneficiaries not to consider the quantity of what they would get individually but the spirit behind it, Mr. Okeke assured that the command under him would always assist the families whenever any opportunity arises; such as police recruitment for their qualified children.

Felicia Zaki, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the police for the kind gesture, adding that the force should help in sustaining the gesture.

Items presented for distribution to the widows in Adamawa include bags of rice, cartons of cooking oil, and a cow.
