
NIGERIA (Enugu) - A notorious armed robbery suspect met his waterloo while others escaped with bullet wounds as the gang allegedly, in the early hours of Wednesday (New Year Day), blocked Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway by Akagbe village in Enugu before being confronted by the Police operatives of the Awkunanaw Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Enugu State Command.
In a press release sent to CEOAFRICA online by the Enugu State Police Command, the hoodlums had allegedly blocked the expressway with the aim of dispossessing innocent citizens of their belongings and other valuables, when the operatives acting on a tip-off from members of the public moved to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in gun battle, killing one of the yet to be identified member of the gang on the spot just as others escaped with various degree of bullet wounds.
Meanwhile a locally made double barrel pistol with five live cartridges, coupled with assorted charms were recovered, including a Nissan Sunny with registration YA 170 ENU, Volkswagen J5 Blue and White in colour with registration no KU 730 EKY.
Corpse of the deceased robber is now deposited in a nearby hospital while the State Police Command has appealed to members of the public and Hospital owners to watch out and report promptly to a nearby Police station, any person with injury suspected to be that of bullet for necessary action.
The Enugu Command of the Nigeria Police Force also thanked members of the public for their timely and useful information.
In a related development, operatives of the No. 3 Police Mobile Force, Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, has nabbed two suspects who gave their names as Nonso Ekwe of Isu Village in Ohaozara, Ebonyi State and Ugochukwu Idoh of Amechi Idodo in Nkanu East Local Government of Enugu State but claimed to be living in Lugbe, Abuja, for attempting to snatch a Metalic ash Lexus Jeep with registration No Av 715 Abj, which was parked in front of a shop along Zik’s avenue, Enugu.
It was further gathered that the suspects had arrived the scene with a blue coloured Nissan car with which they had wanted to snatch the said jeep when a quick distress call was raised which prompted the swift arrival of the operatives who arrested the suspects. They are helping the Police in their investigations.
Similarly, an alleged cable vandal syndicate has been nabbed yesterday by the Eagle Eyed Operatives of Emene Division of Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force.
Suspect who gave his name as Nwafor Sunday of No 20 Kano Street, Coal Camp, Enugu and a specialized syndicate in electric cable vandalization, was nabbed at No 17 Nkwubor Road, Emene, after vandalizing cable allegedly used in installing a transformer. He is assisting the operatives in their investigations.
Recovered from the suspect are cables already vandalized and razor which, according to him, was for the skinning of cables.
