NIGERIA (Plateau) –Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos Chapter, has stated categorically that its members would not resume academic activities in the institution until their entitlements were fully paid.

The executive of the body revealed that they will not resume on January 6, as directed by the management of the institution, following the suspension of ASUU strike nationwide.

In a press statement issued in Jos yesterday, the Chairman of the union, David Jangkam, noted that the university had received N1.16 Billion as school’s share for onward payment to staff that had worked and earned same based on computation done in 2011 and submitted by department and units.

“Instead the University of Jos administration shared the money as it deemed fit without regards to whether staff earned same entitlement or not, thus resulting in some members getting far less than what they are entitled and most members getting nothing at all,” the statement read.

The union alleged that some staff who were not entitled to the allowance got three to four times what those who were entitled should have gotten. It stated that it had written to the university to draw its attention to this misapplication of its members’ money.

The union vowed that despite the suspension of the national strike, its members would not resume academic activities on Monday until their internal demands were met by the university.
