Staff officers of the Command Day Secondary School (CDSS) Ede being introduced to the Commander Nigerian Army Education Corps.

Army lays emphasis on development of barracks

The Nigerian Army has commenced the development of modern structures all over the barracks nationwide for the benefit of the barracks community.

The Commander, Nigerian Army Education Corps, Major General Sunday Adedapo Adebayo disclosed on Friday while commissioning a block of three classrooms and offices constructed at Command Day Secondary School (CDSS) Ede, Osun State.

 

He emphasized that the project was a tip of the iceberg, stressing that the school would continue to enjoy more infrastructural development projects. General Adebayo warned students to take adequate care of the classroom, promising them school bus for their day-to-day school activities.

He noted that the role of the Nigerian Army Education Corps (NAEC) was to provide sound education to officers, soldier’s children and members of the general public, maintaining that a soldier fighting in battle field would be happy that children are learning at home and would fight to finish.

 

General Adebayo advised other commanders to make inputs to ensure that structures are developed stressing that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) had built structures all over the barracks/cantonments since assumption of office. While commending the Division Education Officer, Colonel Mohammed kini for taking pains to inspect the project, he also appreciated the good efforts and contributions of parents, teachers, staff and students of the school that made the project to see the light of the day.

 

He thanked the Commandant of the school Lieutenant Colonel Shehu Said for his

commitment and determination towards making the completion of the project.

Also speaking, Colonel Kini revealed that the Corps Commander on assumption of office in 2013 was on his maiden visit to 2 Division Education Area of

Responsibility during which he visited Command Day Secondary School Ede and saw the infrastructural decay of the school as presented to him by the commandant.

 

According to him, the Corps commander in line with his vision which was to

rejuvenate the Nigerian Army Education Corps for better performance of its roles in support of the COAS vision, donated a block of three classrooms which the fund that was released immediately for the project to commence.

Colonel Kini explained that with proper, prudent spending, and effective management of resources allocated for the project, they did not only construct a block of three classrooms, but with additional four offices and two toilets.

 

He appreciated the Corps commander whose vision and passion for development in all Command Schools brought about the project to reality within the shortest possible time. Colonel Kini paid special tribute to the commander Engineer Construction Regiment (ECR) Ede, Brigadier General AG Adeyemi, Commandant, Staff officers of the school,soldiers, students and members of staff for contributing immensely to the project.

 

In his welcome address, the commandant, Command Day Secondary School, Ede,

Lieutenant Colonel SI Said disclosed that the school was an out spring of Army Day Secondary School Ede which was initiated by Engineer Construction Regiment (ECR) in year 2000 and commenced on 10 November 2001 reminding the dignitaries present at the event that the school was formally handed over to NAEC on 14 October 2002 by the Government of Osun State. Colonel Said reiterated the need for comfortable classrooms, pointing out that physical and numerical growth of the school.

 

While thanking the Corps Commander for his contributions and generosity, he used the opportunity to encourage all the stake holders not to rest on their oars to see the school to an enviable height structurally and in every wise.

The Corps commander was accompanied by Colonel SS Ibrahim, Capt A Abdullahi and other Staff Officers.

 

Highlights of the event witnessed the presentation of souvenirs and a melodious cultural dance by the students of the school.
