The Oyo South senatorial aspirant and the founder of Akin Fagbemi Foundation, Mogaji (Dr.) Akin Fagbemi has commended President Muhammadu Buhari, the leadership as well as members of NASS and State Houses of Assembly for the successful passage of the Not Too Young to Run Bill.
Dr. Akin made this known in a chat with CEOAFRICA on Thursday. In his words he explained that the act has automatically brought leadership closer to the teeming and energetic Nigerian Youths who represents a greater percentage of the Nation’s demography.
He said “The primary aim of the law is to increase the participation of young people in politics, as more than half of the nation’s population is below 30”
The Oyo South senatorial aspirant lauded President Buhari for giving a timely assent and signing the bill into law.
Also, he encouraged youths to actively participate in the political spectrum of their local communities.
Fagbemi however appealed to all and sundry to support responsible youths who stand for elections across all levels of government.
He urged all youths to shun nefarious activities such as hooliganism.
Dr. Fagbemi confirmed that with the President assent, the age limit for presidential candidates has dropped to 35 from 40, while the minimum age for national and state assembly will now be 25.
