The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West said it has ratified the appointment of the acting National Secretary of the party, Professor Wale Oladipo, as the substantive National Secretary of the party pending the determination of the case instituted by a former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola at the Supreme Court.
The South West caucus of the party said it took the decision to ensure that the constitution of the party is upheld and also to put an end to the controversy surrounding the office of the National Secretary of the party.
A leader of the party in the South West and member of the South West caucus, Prince Francis Fadahunsi, who disclosed this to newsmen in Osogbo during a media chat said the decision was taken at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the residence of the former National Deputy Chairman (South) of the party, Chief Olabode George in Lagos.
Crisis has since been rocking the party, especially in the South West since Oladipo assumed office as the acting National Secretary following litigation by Prince Oyinlola.
Oyinlola had challenged the emergence of Oladipo as the National Secretary of the party and won at the Federal High Court but the party appealed against the judgment.
Recently, President Goodluck Jonathan held a closed door meeting with Oyinlola and National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Muazu on how to win Oyinlola back to the PDP fold, as he was allegedly romancing the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, Fadahunsi advised Oyinlola to return fully to the PDP and support the party to win the August 9 Governorship election in Osun state.
The ace politician who noted that the governorship candidate of the PDP in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore was instrumental to the emergence of Oyinlola as Governor in 2003 urged Oyinlola to support Omisore to realize his dream of ruling the state.
He noted that Oyinlola is not God, stressing that with or without him, the PDP will deliver the state come August 9, 2014.
