Boko Haram takes over Gwoza Local Government Area

The dreaded Boko Haram sect has taken over Gwoza Local government area of Borno State. The insurgents laid siege on the town and overpowered the military formations in the local government.

According to some of the displaced resident who had fled the town said the Boko Haram terrorists, who came in Hilux vehicles with armoured tanks laid siege on the town and started firing sporadically looting and destroying houses, shops and government.

“The situation forced those who are close to the neighbouring towns to run to those town for refuge while the others sought refuge on the hills and mountains”

“They attacked the policemen at the Gwoza Divisional Police Headquarters by throwing explosives and using other dangerous weapons, but I don’t have the details whether the police station was destroyed or not”. He added.

Gwoza Local government area had come under heavy attack in recent times the bridge linking Gwoza-Maiduguri and Gwoza Madagali had been bombed by members of the Boko Haram sect and the killing of the Emir of Gwoza on his way to Gombe.

According to residents, more than one hundred people have been killed by the sect members after the siege on Wednesday on the town.

Some of the residents begged the Federal government to come to their intervention because if the destruction continues in this scale, the people of Gwoza would not have a place to call theirs

 “If this continues, then all of us will soon be without a place to call our home”, said a resident of Gwoza, adding that he and most residents who escaped the militants’ attack were now refugees.
