Villarreal striker, Ikechukwu Uche is looking forward to a rewarding 2014/15 season with the Yellow Submarine.

Uche was the highest scoring African in the Primeira División last season as he struck 14 goals to fire the Spanish club to the Uefa Europa League.

The 30-year-old is however not resting on his oars and wants an even bigger season when La Liga gets underway on August 23.

"Personally, the idea is always to improve and that is what I have in mind. But I neither think much about it, what I want is to go day by day and see how things go," he said.

After spending time in the second division (Segunda) and after winning promotion at the start of last season, Villarreal are back at the big table of European football but Uche wants his teammates to keep their feet firmly on the ground.

"So we must go slowly. It will not be easy and we have to go game by game," he advised.

Uche was left out of the Nigerian squad for the 2014 Fifa World Cup but has moved on, setting his sights on the challenge ahead with Villarreal.

He is now one of six senior strikers on the books of Villarreal and he took the time to discuss the arrival of the club's 20-year-old Argentine striker, Luciano Vietto who arrived from the Racing Club.

"He has come as a young and eager player. He is a good player. As we have seen, he is a boy who is eager to grow and that's good for the team. Competition is good and that is good for everyone," he said.
