Nigeria Risks FIFA Ban –Bassey

Confederation of African football (CAF) technical committee member, Paul Bassey, has warned of the looming FIFA ban of Nigeria Football Federation as a result of the ongoing leadership crisis rocking the federation.

A purported election that held last Tuesday in Abuja produced Chris Giwa as president, while another Congress that held same day in Abuja at an undisclosed venue fixed another election for Thursday in Abuja.

FIFA in a letter last Friday refused to recognize the election that produced Giwa lending its support for the Congress that fixed election for Thursday. FIFA in the letter asked Giwa to vacate the secretariat by midnight of September 01, but Giwa has refused saying he has written the world governing body.

As a result of the ongoing imbroglio, Bassey believes strongly that failure to resolve the issue in line with FIFA guideline might lead to another ban.

He said FIFA has not acted because it is awaiting the outcome of the elections slated for Thursday in Abuja.

“FIFA won’t say anything for now as it awaits feedback first from either Musa Amadu or Aminu Maigari,” he told footballlive.ng.

“If there is a report sent to FIFA that the status quo remains then they could react.”
