Thursday, 13 May 2021: One, Ephraim Edet Okon has been murdered by his friend, Akpaniko Okon, allegedly to escape repaying the 30,000 naira debt he was owing him.
The said friend is now on the run from the authorities.
CEOAFRICA gathered that the incident took place on Wednesday, May 12, at Gibbs street, Uyo, Akwa Ibom. The suspect, who reportedly got deported from overseas on criminal grounds, had borrowed the sum of thirty thousand naira from the deceased and later threatened to kill him, if he ask for the money again.
According to a report from an anonymous source, the culprit spotted Ephraim last night (Wednesday night) walking down the street and allegedly ran him over with an unregistered Lexus car. Passers by rushed the victim to a nearby hospital. Akpan, who was said to have followed them closely in the company of armed men suspected to be policemen whisked away the only eyewitness.
“When they discovered that Ephraim had passed on, the said armed men rushed Akpan out by shooting sporadically into the air when residents wanted to accost him.
“They claimed the residents wanted to kidnap him.”
Before he eventually killed the friend, Akpan had been bullying Ephraim, saying he’ll kill him, if he requested for the said debt. He boasted that he has influential members in their church and an uncle, who is a judge that will help to trash out the case. O God, your vengeance!!,” a source said.
