Wednesday 22nd December 2021: Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen, has disclosed that he would be available for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Osimhen made the declaration on Twitter on Tuesday after posting a picture of himself in training with his face mask.
The Super Eagles striker has been out of action since fracturing his cheekbone after a collision with Milan Skriniar in Napoli’s 3-2 loss to Inter Milan in a Serie A match at the San Siro November 21.
He had a surgery on his fractured cheekbone November 25, with the club stating that he would be out of action for 90 days, which ruled him out of the AFCON.
But the 22-year-old returned to individual training exactly 15 days later.
The prolific striker, who has returned to full training wearing a protective mask, has however declared his intention to be part of the Eagles squad to the AFCON in Cameroon.
“I will be available for AFCON 100 per cent unless I am not among the players picked to represent Nigeria,” he tweeted.
AFCON is slated to begin in 18 days and the news comes as a huge relief for the national team handlers, after Genk striker, Paul Onuachu, was ruled out of the continental showpiece due to a muscle tear, with Leicester forward Kelechi Iheanacho also doubtful after he was infected with COVID-19.
Tuttosport on Sunday had reported that Osimhen would return to action in Napoli’s match versus Bologna January 16.
Before his injury, Osimhen had scored nine goals in 14 appearances in all competitions for the Partenopei. His impressive performance saw him voted Serie A Player of the Month for September.
