Bandits Attack: Schools in Zamfara resumes 20 weeks after closure

Schools in Zamfara state, both Primary and secondary would be reopened from Monday, January 17.

The state government made the announcement on Sunday through Shehu Ibrahim, Acting Director, Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education.

Public and private schools categorized as “green’’ and “yellow’’ by the authorities are to resume normal academic activities.

Those under the “red” category remain closed until the security situation improves.

The reopening comes 20 weeks after bandits abducted 80 students and 3 teachers from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya in Maradun Local Government Area.

All the captives are now free. Earlier, 279 female students of Government Girls Science Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata Marafa LGA.

They were freed in March 2021 after negotiations with the government. The bandits have killed and taken many hostages for ransom.
