Two serving Senators on Wednesday announced their defection from Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress.

Senator Francis Onyewusi (Imo East) who is a first-timer in the Senate, was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and he defected to Labour Party (LP). His counterpart in Bauchi, Haliru Dauda Jika (Bauchi Central) was a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and he defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Their letters of defection were read on the floor by the Senate President.

The defected Senators cited injustice and inequity in their former political parties that made them fail the primary elections.

Recall that CEOAFRICA reported barely 24hours ago three serving Senators had tendered their resignation from the two major parties in Nigeria, the PDP and APC.
