Rivers Police Commissioner, CP Tunji Disu
A Superintendent attached to Bori Police Area Command, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, simply identified as Emmanuel has been detained for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.
The Superintendent was detained at the State Criminal Investigation And Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt on the order of the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olatunji Disu, over the allegation of defilement.
Narrating how the girl was allegedly defiled to our reporter, the Aunt of the victim who simply identified herself as Mrs Love, said the girl went out on Friday 12, January, 2024, but did not come back that day.
Mrs love who is the guardian of the girl said she came back in the morning on Saturday 13, January 2024. When the girl was interrogated she said she was held back in the evening and defiled by a Police Officer in his office at Bori Area Command till daybreak, the Aunt claimed.
She added that the girl said the police officer threatened to shoot her if she raised an alarm when she was being defiled.
She added that following the revelation, she examined the girl and also discovered that she had been defiled.
Mrs Love said she reported the incident at the Bori Police Division where the girl identified the Superintendent as the policeman who defiled her. Subsequently, the girl was taken to hospital by the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) at Bori Police Division where the incident was reported and the Doctor on duty at the hospital confirmed that there was penetration and bruises in the teenage girl’s vagina.
Mrs Love also told our reporter that the Police Officer is being detained at SCIID while appealing to police authorities not to bury the matter under the carpet.
Our Correspondent sighted the result of the medical examination on the girl which confirmed that her hymen was broken and she sustained bruises in the vagina area.
In the meantime, a Human Rights Organization, Rainbow Watch And Development Centre, which has been following up on the case has called for unbiased and thorough investigation into the incident.
Executive Director of the group, Michael Gbarale, in a brief statement to journalists said, “We commend the Commissioner of Police for the arrest of the Police Officer who allegedly defiled a 13-year-old- girl and transfer of the case to SCIID.
“We demand an unbiased and thorough investigation into the incident with a view to serving Justice to all the parties involved.
“We will closely monitor and follow the case to its logical conclusion”.
It was gathered that Police detectives from SCIID were at the scene of the alleged crime at Bori Area Command as part of their investigation.
The Rivers Police Command was yet to respond officially on the alleged incident at the time of filing this report.
