A lawmaker representing Maru North Constituency in Zamfara State House of Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Yakubu, has defected from All Progressive Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The lawmaker lost state assembly ticket to an opponent, Ibrahim Abu at the APC state assembly primaries.

Yakubu was the only legislator who failed to capture his constituency among the serving members of the assembly during the APC primaries.

Confirming his detection on Wednesday in Gusau, Yakubu said he was yet to explain his reason for defecting to the PDP.

“It is true I defected to the Peoples Democratic Party but I am still making some consultations before I announce my reasons for the action,’’ the lawmaker explained.

The lawmaker had on Saturday attended a PDP occasion in Kaura Namoda Local Government area of the state when Vice-President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, visited the state.

Sambo witnessed the graduation ceremony of 300 youths from the youth skills acquisition programme initiated by Sen. Sahabi Ya’u of Zamfara North.

It would be recalled that two serving commissioners and a special adviser to the state governor had last week dumped APC for the PDP.

The commissioners are Alhaji Sunusi Maradun of Ministry of Social Welfare, Alhaji Kabiru Sahabi, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning as well as the Special Adviser on Local Government Monitoring Projects, Alhaji Ibrahim Kunchin-Kalgo.
