The Nigerian Police Force, Oyo State Command, has denied allegations circulating in the media about the shooting to death of a protester today.
This was made known by the Commissioner of Police, CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu in a press release signed by the Public Relations Officer Oyo Police Command and was made available to CEO Africa.
CP Nwachukwu said that, “the police allowed the protesters to express their feelings during the protest and they were not hindered in any form until when they started throwing stones into the Police premises and attempted to gain entrance into the premises”.
He further explained that the police used tear gas to stop them from gaining entrance into the Owode Ogbomosho police station and attacking the station.
He said; “the Police did not fire a shot or kill any protester as widely circulated”.
The CP had earlier sought for collaborations of parents/guardians, religious and community leaders to wade in and appeal to the protesting youths to give the Oyo Police Command time to implement the Inspector General of Police’s directives.
He warned miscreants to stay away from the state because the Police will not “fold their arms and allow breakdown of law and order”.
He equally assured the good people of Oyo state of their safety while they go about their daily businesses.
