A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the name of Godswill Akpabio as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Akwa Ibom North/West Senatorial Election.
The Electoral body had omitted the names of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and Godswill Akpabio, the former Minister of Niger Delta affairs from its published lists, claiming that they did not participate in the Primary Elections, CEOAFRICA had reported.
Against all efforts by the ruling party to get the tickets for Lawan and Akpabio, INEC on July 9th, insisted that Bashir Machina and Udom Ekpoudom remain the APC senatorial candidates for the districts.
But on Thursday, the presiding Judge, Justice Emeka Nwite in a Judgement on declared INEC’s position illegal, noting that INEC has no reason to reject Akpabio since his name was sent to the Commission by the Party as its candidate.
