Dominican University to hold historic first, combined convocation

All roads lead to the Dominican University, in the ancient city of Ibadan as it is set to hold her first convocation ceremony in a combined grand style on the 9th and 10th of December, 2022.
This was  made known during a press conference held at Tom and Carolyn Walker Hall  by the management of the university.  
While addressing journalists, the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Hyginus Ekwuazi  stated  that the institution will be celebrating her first  combined  convocation ceremonies with total number of 96 graduands, which comprises 47 graduands for the 2020/2021 academic session and 49 graduands for the 2021/2022 academic season.
Prof. Hyginus in his words confirmed that the executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency , Engineer Seyi Makinde will be the Chief Guest at the Convocation, while the Special Guests of Honour for the occasion will be His Imperial Majesty, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Ooni of Ile-Ife and His Imperial Majesty, Senator Moshood Olalekan Balogun, Olubadan of Ibadan Land.
The  acting Vice Chancellor  further stated that  the combined first and second convocation ceremony will be holding from Friday 9 to Saturday 10 December, 2022, at the convocation arena of the university.
On Friday, the Foundation Day memorial lecture, on the topic, “An Impact—the Vision for Dominican University Ibadan”, holds, at 2:00 pm; special dinner and musical presentations will take place immediately after the lecture.
The guest lecturer for the Friday event is Chief (Dr) Anthony Idigbe, SAN, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the school and Senior Partner, Punuka Attorney and Solicitors.
On Saturday, main events of the ceremony begin with the Convocation Lecture titled, “Let your Degree Count”, by Mr Peter Amangbo, a member of the Governing Council of the school and Chairman, Board of Directors of Globus Bank Ltd. Guests are enjoined to be seated 30 minutes earlier for the programme.
The Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Modestus Ngwu, O.P., who presides at the convocation ceremonies and other assemblies of the University for the conferment of degrees, diplomas, certificates and other awards, shall confer and present degrees and awards to the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 graduands of the University.
Speaking about the academic performance of the graduates, Prof. Hyginus said, “Out of the total of 47 graduands for the 2020/2021 academic session, 6 graduands are in the First Class Honours category; 22 in the Second Class Honours (Upper Division) category; and 19 graduands, in the Second Class Honours (Lower Division) category, while out of the total 49 graduands of the 2021/2022 academic session, 7 graduands are in the First Class Honour category: 32 are in the Second Class Honours (Upper Division) category, and 9 graduands, in the 2 Class Honours (Lower Division) category.
On award and prizes, Prof. Hyginus said, “Best Overall Graduating Student goes to Mr. Nduka Onyedika of the Department of Philosophy Religious Studies with CGPA of 4.76.
Speaking with CEOAFRICA , the acting Registrar Rev. Fr. Samuel Onyiba  OP said the  University is poised to solve problems in the immediate  community.
Rev. Fr. Patrick Akunne OP  Dean, Student Affairs Unit,  confidently said  the university has prepared their graduates  well enough to be wealth creators and  employers of labour . Dr Akunne used the opportunity to call on  prospective students to take advantage of the quality education  Dominican University  is offering to make positive difference in their respective communities.
Dr Juliet Ada Shenge (Member Governing Council )  said the institution  is focusing on research  which is what define a citadel of leaning.
The Chairman of Ceremonies, Rev. Fr Francis Chiadi, OP,  called on the members of the public to be part of  the  epoch-making event as dignitaries from all walks of life will grace occasion.
He further stated that the event will be streamed live and enjoin all to be part of the history .
