AWKA -Saturday 1 May 2021: History was made in Anambra State on Friday when three aircraft landed at the newly constructed Anambra International Cargo Airport, Umueri in Anambra State.

The first of the aircraft, an Air Peace aircraft marked 5N-BUJ with Air Peace chairman Chief Allen Onyema, landed at 2.25 pm amidst cheers from the crowd who gathered at the event.

A second aircraft followed shortly, also an Air Peace aircraft followed by a private aircraft.

In his speech, Governor Willie Obiano described the airport as the most audacious legacy of his administration and the fastest to be built without borrowing a kobo.

Obiano recalled that the dream for Anambra Airport began 30 years ago when about 53 acres of land were acquired at Oba in Idemili South Local Council Area.

He said it took him 15 months of hardworking to deliver the airport

He said that the airport will generate over 3,000 jobs and boost the economy of not only the state but the entire South East.

Obiano said that commercial flights, local and international will soon commence business activities in the airport.
